Interviews from the Blue Couch - One Breath Healing and Sheila Shervey

Welcome to our inaugural “Interviews From the Blue Couch” blog.

We are excited to introduce you to Sheila Shervey from One Breath Healing located in Scottsdale. I first met Sheila when she moved from Los Angeles to the Valley of the Sun almost two years ago and remember being grateful that such a warm and caring person was joining our women’s healthcare community. At that time Sheila also confessed that she reached out to ilumina because she had been receiving the clinic’s newsletter since 2013 and really felt a draw to what we did. It was an instant connection for both of us.

Please tell us about your business?

One Breath Healing is a holistic women’s mental health practice offering traditional counseling, mindfulness, and holistic wellness experiences. The holistic wellness experiences are group gatherings intended to create community. One Breath Healing is unique in the focus on creating a comprehensive wellness plan that not only includes therapy but also therapies such as acupuncture.

How and why did you start your business?

I observed the stresses of modern society and particularly the effect that it was having on women. When I was in Los Angeles I was involved with the Urban Zen Integrative Therapy Program affiliated with UCLA, there was an internal shift that happened and it was life changing for me. I realized that all women need a space like the one that was provided there, so I create One Breath Healing.

What have you learned along the way?

I have learned that, once you have started from solid ground, trust the process. There is such a sacredness that happens from creating a safe and open space for women to do their internal work.

How can One Breath Healing benefit ilumina patients?

What arises in a treatment session with acupuncture and herbs is a process in its own right but sometimes there are emotions that still need attention. One Breath Healing can provide that extra support. There is also a lot of stress that can arise during fertility treatment and since the mind and body are connected I like to explore and support the feelings that arise and their connection to the body.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I have been through the whole fertility process myself so I understand the emotional and physical process as well as the medications and difficult decisions that need to be made.
