Women’s sexuality is far more complicated than men’s generally.   Women can experience issues with desire, arousal, orgasm or pain. Taking into consideration that many women have experienced abuse or assault-and will often effect sexuality and female sexual dysfunction.  Issues with not feeling connected to your partner, other emotional or physical health issues can affect women’s sexuality.

Lack of sexual interest can happen due to emotional factors, after childbirth, with stress, poor body image, menopause, physical pain, relationship issues, medical or gynecological conditions like endometriosis, UTI, yeast infections, vaginismus and others.

Sexual frustration from a partner’s lack of experience or other factors can also influence women’s sexuality and response.

With acupuncture and herbs we look at the whole person- physical, emotional (anger, sadness, grief, frustration, worry, fear) and lifestyle to see what factors might be contributing to any issues.  Deficiency or stagnation of energy in the kidney, liver, heart, lungs or blood systems can be factors.  There is a connection called the Bao mai between the uterus and heart which emphasizes the important role of emotions in women’s health.

At ilumina Healing Sanctuary, we take an individualized treatment approach to women’s sexuality that includes acupuncture, possibly herbs and other treatment recommendations.
